Exterior elevated deck constructed from wood or metal joist framing, traditionally surfaced with wood, composite, plastic or aluminum decking, but here using standard 12”, 16" or 24" O.C. joist layout overlaid with a structural Deck Plank secured to framing with stainless steel fastener and screw¹, surfaced with 16”x16” thin gauge porcelain tile, contact-sheet bonded² to the structural Deck Plank, and the completed assembly weighing <15 lbs/sf³.

A1: Elevated Deck Residential open joist framing 24”, 16”, 12” O.C. A traditional residential single-family 2nd or 3rd floor decking platform used for outdoor social gatherings of family and friends and constructed using post, beams and joist members.

A2: Dry-Below Deck 2nd floor joist bay water collection with ceiling A traditional residential single-family or multifamily 2nd or 3rd floor decking platform used for outdoor social gatherings and constructed using post, beams and joist members but with the addition of a water-capture system, fitting between joist members to collect and divert water draining through the decking surface, to create a dry, functional space beneath the deck.

A5: Entry Porch Joist framed entry landing, flat or sloped A traditional residential entry constructed of either joist framing or a concrete slab, used as a transitional space from indoor to out and back again.

A9: Apartment Deck Multifamily open joist framing 24”, 16”, 12” O.C. A small residential multi-floor decking platform for tenant use and constructed using post, beams and joist members.

S1: Thin Gauge Tile 1cm, 3/8”-1/2” uniformly gauged porcelain tile A 3/8”-1/2” porcelain tile material, standard to the flooring industry, and with a surface friction suitable to the use, of any dimension greater than 4” and of any shape or pattern, and that is uniform in thickness and dimension ±1/32”.

S2: Thin Gauge Stone 1cm, 3/8”-1/2” uniformly gauged natural stone tile A 3/8”-1/2” natural stone tile, standard to the flooring industry, and with a surface friction and type suitable to the use and climate conditions, of any dimension greater than 4” and of any shape or pattern, and that is uniform in thickness and dimension ±1/32”.

S3: Porcelain Paver 2cm, 3/4” porcelain paver A high span strength, 3/4” porcelain tile material, intended for all exterior applications, of any pattern, and that is uniform in thickness and dimension ±1/32”.

Conditions

C1: Glue Down Glue bond surface material to structural underlayment. The back of a thin gauge porcelain tile or natural stone is buttered with adhesive to bond the material to the supporting structure ensuring surface strength and stability but no removability.

C6: Underlayment Surface material supported by full structural underlayment. The surface material will be placed over a structural panel that adds strength and load transfer from the surface material to the bearing members.
